The Aroma festival
SupriyaBesides brown paper packages tied up with string, Chocolate and Coffee are a few of my favorite things. Luckily, July 29th marked The Aroma Festival in The Rocks. Now, The Rocks are the historical district of Sydney where the first settlements were founded. The area has an old world feel to it, down to the cobblestone streets and 18th century buildings. The weather, though overcast, was a lovely 60 degrees. We wandered around the different stalls sampling candies, chocolates, and coffees from a variety of places. The coffee stalls included both Australian roasts as well as international brands like Illy. The coffees were all $2 for a regular size (a Short by Starbucks standards) and the vendors were happy to let you sample their wares. We may or may not have gone by the stall selling white-chocolate macadamia nut cookies more than once. Each section was set up by region of the world: The Orient, The Continent (Europe), The Oasis (Arabia) and The Latin Quarter. We had lamb kebabs from Turkey, lattes from Italy, chocolate from Portugal and everything in between. We even had a traditional Australian Beef & Burgundy Pie and listened to live music overlooking Sydney Harbour. While I've never tried going Around the World in 80 Days - we sure made it through the more delectable parts in 80 stalls.
